─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1. General Information
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SYSOP 2.11 is a usefull tool for BBS systems running on
either Remote Access / SuperBBS / QuickBBS. Mailers are not
incorporated as the logfile tools were made independantly
from the type of bbs package and mailer being used.
SYSOP was made specially for use in BBS systems with large
file areas. But still works on smaller ones just as good. ;-)
The idea is to get all files including descriptions into a
single database . This has the advantage that you only have
to backup one file instead of maybe 150 FILES.BBS to backup
all your descriptions.
This has the disadvantage, that aproximatly 550 byte in the
database + indices are used but has as said the backup
advantage.
SYSOP is distributed as Shareware. It is not cut down to a
minimum of functions and has a complete manual. The only
limitation is that the statistic lengths are limited to 10
entrys, only one special file list can be user defined and
the lineformat of the file listings is not user definable.
If you like SYSOP and still want to use it after 30 days of
trial you must register!
The registration fee is DM 50,00 (or USD 30) including the
german V.A.T of 14% for noncommercial use. If you use
SYSOP on a commercial site or use the commercial version of
Remote Access / SuperBBS / QuickBBS the registration fee is
DM 114,- (USD 70) including 14% V.A.T.
Then you will recieve a key that registers this and all
future versions of SYSOP.

1.8 Logfile
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SYSOP is able to read nearly all logfiles from different
programs. SYSOP documents every action in a logfile in OPUS
format. If a bug occurs an entry will be made in the logfile,
reporting wich file was created for the bug report.
1.9 External programs
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SYSOP use many different external programs. For example the
various Arcer and Scan from McAfee. Arcers & Scan are
definitly in your posession, that is why they are not a part
of this package. If you don't have them you can request them,
All programs must be reachable through your path.
Following arcers are used and should be available for the
various ARC-Files that are in circulation.
- PkZip Version 1.1
- LHa Version >= 2.0
- ARJ Version >= 2.30
- PAK Version >= 2.50
- PkPak Version >= 3.60 for Files in ARC-Format
- Zoo Version >= 2.00

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1.10 List-Templates
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The format of the AllFiles-Lists is user definable by using
macros. All macros must be UPPERCASE. Following macros are
available:
%F1 = Filename (Ext. without space, e.g. 'FILE.EXT')
%F2 = Filename (Ext. always from 9th place e.g.
'FILE .EXT')
%S1 = Filesize in Byte (Format = 1234567)
%S2 = Filesize in Byte (Format = 1.123.456)

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1.11 Area-Templates
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The headers for all file listings and the FILES.BBS are
freely definable. Case sensitivity is not important with
these macros. The following macros are available:
%AO = AreaNumber
- Length: 3 characters
%AN = AreaName
- Length: 30 characters
%AI = AreaInfo
- Length: 30 characters
%FC = Number of files in an area (always total)

- Length: 11 characters
%FN = Name of the newest file
- Length: 12 characters
%FD = Date of the newest file
- Length: 8 characters
%DT = Downloads total
- Length: 4 characters
For the AreaNumber it is also possible to show Mediumsize
numbers. You must define a macro for each of the 4 lines.
The MediumSize-Areanummber has a length of 23 characters.
%MN1 = Line 1 for Medium-Size numbers
%MN2 = Line 2 for Medium-Size numbers
%MN3 = Line 3 for Medium-Size numbers
%MN4 = Line 4 for Medium-Size numbers
- Length: 23 characters
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 15
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
MediumSize-Numbers look like this:
█▀▀▀▀▀█ █ █▀▀▀▀▀█ █▀▀▀▀█ █ █
█ ▄█ ▄█ █ ▄▄▄▄█▄ █ █
█ ██ ██ ██▀▀▀▀▀ ██ █▄▄▄▄█▄

█▄▄▄▄██ █▄▄▄▄██ ██ █▄▄▄▄██ ██
For the AreaNumber it is also possible to show Bigsize
numbers. You must define a macro for each of the 6 lines.
The BigSize-Areanummber has a length of 23 characters.
%BN1 = Line 1 for Big-Size numbers
%BN2 = Line 2 for Big-Size numbers
%BN3 = Line 3 for Big-Size numbers
%BN4 = Line 4 for Big-Size numbers
%BN5 = Line 5 for Big-Size numbers
%BN6 = Line 6 for Big-Size numbers
- Length: 23 characters
The BigSize-Numbers look like this:
▒▒▒▒▒▒▄ ▒▒▒▄ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▄ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▄ ▒▒▄
▒▒█▀▒▒█ ▒▒█ ▀▀▀▒▒█ ▀▀▀▒▒█ ▒▒█

See also the example templates.
If you use RemoteAccess and MediumSize or BigSize numbers
for the FILES.BBS template be sure to insert an space in the
first column otherwise Remote Access would hang!
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 16
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1.12 Installation
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Make a new directory on your harddisk
(E.g. 'C:\SYSOP')
Copy all the files into this directory:
Modify your CONFIG.SYS if necessary so that you have a min.
of FILES=20.
FILES may also be higher but in no means less.
Additionaly in your AUTOEXEC.BAT you must have SET RA=xxxx,
SET SBBS or SET QUICK because SYSOP use this variable to look
for the BBS config files, but every BBS Sysop will have that
set.
That was all with installing. For the rest see: "First steps"
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 17
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
2. First Steps
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The configuration (Graphicard, printer, etc.) will be made
automatically when you go through the first steps.
In parameter menu are all parts to setup your hardware and
system parameters.
2.1 Setup
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The parameters are made up of 6 parts, global, listings
filenames, statistic, switches and report parameters.
2.1.1 Global
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Swap Path
- Temporary path for a SwapFile into a DOS Shell, Arc-View,
Gifview, Textview and when Arcing Files. If SET TMP is used
and no entry is made here then the TMP path will be used.
Swap into EMS
- Do you want to use EMS for swapping? If EMS has no memory
free at that time then SYSOP automatically uses the swap
path.
Swap into XMS
- Do you want to use XMS for swapping? If XMS has no memory
free at that time then SYSOP automatically use the swap
path. XMS naturaly needs Himem.sys or Qemm for swapping to
it.
Swap into extendend memory
- Do you want to use Extended Memory for swapping? This is
not recommended because there is only one programme around
at this time that can use it. If extended memory is full
then SYSOP uses automatically the swap path.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 18
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Temporary path
- Temporary path for unarcing for ArcScan and VirusScan.
SYSOP unarcs into this path. It brings a higher performance
but obviously there musst be enough diskspace available.
Virus path
- SYSOP puts all files with CRC errors & virii into this path
External programm
- Default program for DOS->PROGRAM.
ARC-Viewer
- Name of the program for viewing archives. If the viewer is
in your PATH you only need the program name. Commandline
parameters are allowed too.
GIF-Viewer
- Name of the program to view GIF`s. If the viewer is in your
path you only need the name of the program. Commandline
parameters are allowed too.
TEXT-Viewer
- Name of the program to view textfiles. If the program is in
your path you only need the program name. Commandline
parameters are allowed too.
New BBS-Name
- Alternate BBS Name. You may only fill this in if you have
changed the name of your BBS but still have the old name in
your BBS config. You also need a special key for this.
Days for NewFiles
- Maximum age for a file so that it will be listed in the
NewFiles listing.
Active Days in Logfile
- How many days should be left in your logfile after it has
been shortend.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 19
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Logfile archive path
- In this path SYSOP saves all log entrys that are older than
the amount of days you wanted to keep after shortening. The
filename is made up of the first 2 letters of the original
logfile & the current date, (e.g. 'RA200391' for a Remote
Access logfile from 20.03.91). The file will also be
archived with this name.
Left Margin
- Left Margin in cm, maybe for holes so that you can fill your
paper ;-)
BBS Online since
- This is needed for your BBS statistics.
GIF resolution
- You may design the outfit of the gif resolution with three
macros:
%W - Width
%H - Height
%C - Number of colors
AV-Check Converting
- Do you want to convert files with an AV envelope. If yes
then switch to 'Y', remember that the AV envelope is then
killed and the file will be rearchived even if a conversion
is not necessary.
Missing file description
- This is the the description line for all files where a
description is missing (e.g. Uploaded by a LAZY user). This
will then appear in your FILES.BBS.
Missing new description
- This is the description for all new files where the
description is missing. Will appear in your FILES.BBS.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 20
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Full/quick FileScan
- A quick FileScan doesn't update the size/date/time of known
files in the database. This mean that changes in the date,
size, etc. wouldn't be recognized. This speeds up the
FileScan by 70% ;-)
Full/quick FileScan
- A quick UploadCheck only adds new files to the database and
doesn't updates the description of known files. New files
will of course be imported. This is 70% faster ;-)
Create FILES.BBS in empty filearea
- If you want SYSOP to create a FILES.BBS even if there are
no files in it you have to set this to YES. In this case
this area will also be shown in filearea statistics.
Update file database
- Do you want to SYSOP to update the file database whenever
FILES.BBS was saved during editing with FILES.BBS editor.
Delete ascii listing
- Do you want the ascii file listing remain in the allfiles
directory after it was packed ?
Read D/L counter from FILES.BBS
- You should set this to YES if you want to use external
tools for updating the d/l counter in FILES.BBS instead of
SYSOP. In this case SYSOP updates the d/l counter in the
database during import (UploadCheck) and doesn't update it
during logfile read. Logfile-Read will then only update the
baudrate statistics.

2.2 Graphic
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Choose your type of graphic card & monitor from the list so
that you get the best possible display with SYSOP 2.11.
The options 'CGA' and 'EGA' are for the menus on a color
monitor. The options CGA /M' and 'EGA /M' are for monochrome
displays.
2.3 Printer
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Choose your printer from the list available. Printers can be
either parallel or serial, (if you have no at this time) you
can print into a file for later printing (e.g. with DOS
PRINT).
If you print into a file SYSOP make a file called 'FILE.PRN'
this is made newley every time so make sure that the old one
has been printed, renamed or otherwise saved before printing.
2.4 Importing the files into the Database - IMPORTANT
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If you want to use the filedatabase in SYSOP that is the
safetyfeature ;-) you must first of all import all files into
it. This is easily done using UPLOADCHECK. First you must
have all file areas out of FILES.RA / FLSEARCH.BBS read in
using BASIC DATA->FILEAREAS->INSTALL). After doing this you
can get started with using SYSOP with all its power ;-)
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 31
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
3. Basic data
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This is where you take care of your file areas, and define
the files that are to be deleted out of the different
ARC-Files. Also logfiles etc. are defined here.
3.1 File areas
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
To be able to use this you must first of all enter your file-
areas. This can be done manually or by reading the apropriate
file FILES.RA / FLSEARCH.BBS. If this is done paths and
filenames are taken from FILES.RA / FLSEARCH.BBS.
If the path is already in the pathlist it will be marked with
a '*' in front of the path description.
Directory
- Path of file area
Description
- Description of file area
Infotext
- Additional text for filelists e.g.
'Matrix Filerequest possible'
File-Area Nr.
- Number of file area. This is the same as in FILES.RA but
can be changed so that filelists can be sorted as wanted.
Area-Header
- Filename with which a header over this filearea in the
filelist is decorated.
FILES.BBS
- Alternative directory for FILES.BBS. Needed for CD-ROM.
Freq-OK-List
- Do you want to include this area in the list of file-
requestable directories created for your mailer with
EXPORT ?
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 32
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Secure Frequest
- Do you want to include this area in the list of file-
requestable directories with session password (supported by
FrontDoor) created for your mailer with EXPORT ?
ARC-Header
- Do you want a header in ZIP, PAK, ARJ-Files ?
BBS Infofile
- Do you want an advertisement from your system put in ?
FileScan
- Check filebase with harddisk ? Not needed by CD-ROM
ArcScan
- Change files to a different format ? Impossible on CD-ROM
Complete FileScan
- Should FileScan adopt new files in this area ? if you set
this no NO you may run FileScan before UpladCheck without
any danger of loosing file descriptions but it also means
that you won't be aware of files lying in your areas that
you don't know.
Convert days
- If you set this to non zero ArcScan will convert files in
this area only if they are older than x days. This is
useful for filenet areas that your downlinks still have to
poll.
VirusScan
- Scan new files for virii ?
AllFiles
- Is this area to be taken into the All-/NewFiles list ?
Upload-Check
- Should this area be checked for new uploads ?
(I for example have only one upload area and sort them into
the right place myself. Makes life easier and i only have
to check my upload area and my Software Network areas.)
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 33
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Arcer
- You may specify an different arcer for every area if you
don't want to use the global one. To use the global
definition leave this field empty.
Extended FILES.BBS
- Set this field to YE S for your CD-ROM areas. In this case
SYSOP doesn't write a FILES.BBS using the normal
<filename> <description> format but uses it's extended
CD-ROm format:
<path><filename> <size> <date> <description>
This format is only supported by EFT (Enhanced File
Transfer Door) yet. If you use this format SYSOP (and EFT)
don't access the CD-ROM drive when listing those files.
Therefore you have a great performance increase.
Areagroups 1-3
- Each file area can be in upto 3 alternative arealists. I
have for example an extra list for programmingtools so that
it ist not not always so hard to find things. If you use
this the AllFiles flag will be overridden so that you can
also make a CUG-Filelist ;-)
Number of files
- Statistic information on the amount of Files
Total size
- Statistic information on the total size of all Files
Number of downloads
- Statistic information on the amount of downloads of all
files in this area.

position. With BACKSPACE you can shorten a seekword, or with
F3 or after choosing an area delete the seekword.
When importing file areas out of your bbs config you may set
the flags for all of these newly imported areas globally.
Only new areas will be imported.
To keep the filerequest-list of your Mailer uptodate it is
possible to have a list of all filerequestable areas. This
can be made in either FrontDoor-Format or in BinkleyTerm-
Format with a closing "*.*".
If you don't want to set the flags for each area on its own,
you can use the the GLOBAL menu to set & change the flags for
all areas. All flags will be given for change if one is not
to be changed then it must be left blank that means NO Y/N
answer.

the size of the sent file is found. This is necessary only
for logfiles that don't contain the path. The sent file
will than be detected by the size.
Keywort for baudrate
- This is the keyword that is directly in front of the
baudrate. It may be made up by more than one word.
Example:
Typ Logtype Download Filename Filesize Baudrate

3.7 F-Keys
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
For working in a FILES.BBS editor you can define ALT F-Keys
with textstrings and the CTRL F-Keys can be used for program
macros. These strings can be upto 255 characters long. All
macros MUST be in uppercase.
%P = Active path of file area
%N = Filename
%F = Complete path + filename
%D = Description of active File
%C = Contents of COMSPEC
If more than one file is tagged when an F-KEY is used then
they will be worked on one after the other.
3.8 Exclude records
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
You may specify several records that sould not be shown up in
the statistics.
Exclude
- One entry that shoudln't be shown in the stats. This may be
a username, a filename (no ?* allowed) or a mail area.
Statistic
- Type of statistic: U = User statistcs, F = Top downloaded
files, M = Mail area statistic
Example:
Mike Paschen, CoSysop, 240-100.ARJ, Private_Mail, SEX.GER

4. Creating listings
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SYSOP allows you to make FILES.BBS, AllFiles, NewFiles and
Areagroup listings and their NewFiles. You can also create
.DBF All/NewFiles for those of you who wish to offer dBase
compatible Databases.
Also you can let SYSOP print all files that have no
description.
If you set SETUP->SWITCHES 'Create FILES.BBS in empty areas'
to YES a FILES.BBS will becreated even in file areas that
contain no files. This area will also be shown in the file
area statistic.
If you set SETUP->SWITCHES 'Delete ASCII file listing' to YES
the ascii file listing will remain in your allfiles directory
after archieving it.
4.1 FILES.BBS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This a for each directory alphabetically sorted FILES.BBS
either to be found in the download directory or in the path
enter in file area managment.
The filelists contain a header stating areaname, number of
files and the total size of files in that area or if definded
a header from your template.
IF you set 'Extended FILES.BBS' to YES for a file area the
FILES.BBS won't be in the normal <filename> <description>
format but in the extended CD-ROM format:
<path><filename> <size> <date> <description>
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 49
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
4.2 AllFiles listing
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This funktion makes a list of all files in your BBS showing
filename, size, Date, downloadcounter and description.
The files in the AllFiles listing are sorted alphabetically
for each directory. The followup of file areas is made
through your entry in the file area managment. Areas that
have no place in a list e.g. GroupWare must be marked with a
flag ;-)
Each area has a header showing areaname, number of files,
total size of allfiles or from your defined template.
The list starts optionally with a header, that can be defined
in system parameters. At the end of the list you can also
define a footer. Additionally is a total statistic of all
file areas by file extension and a statistic by filsize.
After the list is generated as ascii file it will be arced
with your favourit Arcer.
Optionally you can also make a dBase file.
4.3 NewFiles listing
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The NewFiles listing is nearly identical to the Allfiles
listing. The difference is that only files that came after
'Days for newfiles' will be put into this file. And that no
infos on number of files or total filesize are in the header.
A NewFiles header template can also be defined.
4.4 Areagroup listing
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
See AllFiles listing. If for an Areagroup listing a template
was defined this will be used if not then the AllFiles
template wWill be taken.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 50
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
4.5 NewFiles of Areagroup listing
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
See NewFiles listing if a template was defined it will be
used otherwise the NewFiles template will be taken.
4.6 Printing files without a description
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
All files that have no description will be printed including
name & full path. Also a list of all file that are still in
file database but no longer on your disk will be printed.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 51
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
5. Statistics
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
SYSOP is able to use nearly all data made in a BBS System and
and put them into statistics. All statistics are made as
ANSI-File and as ASCII-File, and put into the text directory
defined in the BBS config.
A phantastic function is that the Upload-/Download statistics
are made in the form of a Hitparade (Charts) that makes it
easy to see how a User/File climbs/falls.
Because of this it is good only to make these statistics
once or twice a week otherwise the changes are not so
obvious.
For the user statistics SYSOP has its own userfile. Parts of
it are taken from USERS.BBS. For this reason it is better to
run the (Top User List) statistic before all others.
The headers for statistics are definable in the setup menu.
SYSOP optionally uses the users realname or his handle,
depending of the settings in SETUP->STATISTCS.
5.1 Top User List (SYS-USER.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Creates a user statistic, in which the best callers, uploader
(kb) and downloader (Kb) are shown. Always use this one
first because it gets data from USERS.BBS.
5.2 BBS-Statistic (SYS-BBS.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This statistic shows how many calls, uploads, downloads and
written mails per day and total go through your system. For
For the uploads and downloads the total kilobytes are also
shown.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 52
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
5.3 User parameter statistic (SYS-PARA.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This shows how your users have their parameters set. it shows
how many & in percent have 'Clearscreen' 'page pausing' 'ANSI'
'AVATAR' 'Fullscreen-Editor' 'Full-Screen-Reader' etc. set.
Also the average password length and how many users have
called your BBS more than once.
5.4 Mail area statistic (SYS-MAIL.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This one shows how many messages are in each area.
5.5 Mail writer (SYS-POST.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The mail writer statistic is a hitparade listing and should
therefore not be used daily. It shows how many messages a
user has written and his last position in the ratings.
5.6 Top downloaded Files (SYS-TOP.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The top downloaded file statistic is a Hitparade listing and
should therefore not be used daily. It shows how many times a
file has been downloaded and its last position in the ratings.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 53
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
5.7 Downloader Statistic - Number of files (SYS-DL.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The downloader statistic is a Hitparade listing and should
therefore not be used daily. It shows how many downloads a
user has made, and his last position in the ratings.
5.8 Downloader Statistic - KiloByte (SYS-DLKB.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The downloader statistic (KiloyByte) lists the biggest down-
loaders. It even gets around the 65 MegByte limit of RA/SBBS,
so that the proper amount is always shown.
5.9 Uploader Statistic - Number of Files (SYS-UP.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The uploader statistic is a Hitparade listing and should
therefore not be used daily. It shows how many uploads a user
has made, and his last position in the ratings.
5.10 Uploader Statistic - KiloByte (SYS-ULKB.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The uploader statistic (KiloyByte) shows the best uploaders.
Here is also no 65 MegaByte limit so that the real amount is
always shown.
5.11 Baud statistic (SYS-BAUD.A??)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The baud statistic shows a graphic bar of each used baud
rates. The following baudrates are supported: 300, 1200,
2400, 2400 MNP, 4800, 7200, 9600, 12000, 14400, 19200, 38400
baud. Only the baudrates that are really used will be shown.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 54
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
6. File maintenance
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The file maintanance menu has everything to take care of your
Fileareas, checking and overworking and the parts for working
on your logfile.
6.1 Reading logfiles
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The various logfiles will be read and searched for calls,
downloades and baudrates. With this information the download-
counter for files in database (not in FILES.BBS) will be
updated.
If you set 'Read D/L counter from FILES.BBS' in SETUP->
SWITCHES to yes SYSOP only read the connects to update the
baudrate statistic but doesn't update downloadcounter.
6.2 Logfile shortening and archiving
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This is where all log entrys are put that are older than the
age defined. The filename is made up up of the first two
letters of the logfile name & the date (e.g. 'RA200391') for
20.03.91). Using this name the logfiles will also be archived.
6.3 UploadCheck
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
In all directorys that are searched for new uploads SYSOP
looks at FILES.BBS and compares it whith the database, and
updates it with all new files & their description.
If you set 'Full UploadCheck' in SETUP->SWITCHES to NO, SYSOP
only imports new files into the database but doesn't update
the description of already know files.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 55
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
6.4 Arc-Scan
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
ArcScan searches all directorys and looks for files that are
archived in a different way as defined i n your setup. If
files are found they will be temporary unpacked and then
converted to the type you defined.
Additionally all the information files & adverts defined in
your setup will be removed and if defined your own file
and/or header will be added.
If a CRC errors occurs the files will be put into your virus-
directory.
Optional ArcScan searches for FILE_ID.DIZ and DESC.SDI in all
files and uses it's contents as file description.
6.5 Virus-Scan
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Virus-Scan temporary unpacks each file and scans it for
virii. If it finds one or a CRC error occurs the file will be
moved into your virus directory.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 56
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
6.6 FileScan
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
FileScan compares all entrys in the database with all files
on harddisk. First it looks at all directorys to see if it
can find any files that are not included in the datatbase, if
it finds any these are automatically included into the data-
base. The description has then to be enterd manually. This is
NOT taken from FILES.BBS. This function was not made for
updating file areas!
FileScan then checks the other way round, it compares both
for files that are still in the database but no l onger on
your disk. If any are found these entrys are then marked as
missing and will be deleted next time you purge the database.
Additionaly the date & time of each file is recorded and the
total amount of files & total filesize is recorded.
If you set 'Full FileScan' in SETUP->SWITCHES to NO, SYSOP
doesn't update the size / date / time of already known files
in the database. Therefore SYSOP won't recognize if filesizes
changed. But it's 70% faster.
If you set 'Complete FileScan' for an area to YES FileScan
will adopt new files.
Optionally FileScan will use the GIF resolution as file
description of adopted GIF's and optionally uses the
resoultion for the file description for all GIF's without any
description.
6.7 Creating indices
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This option creates indices for all databases. This is also
done automatically every time you purge.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 57
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
6.8 Purge
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Physically removing all deleted entrys. Additionally all
entrys that are marked MISSING will be deleted. After this
the indices will be rebuilt.
6.9 Kill-File
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Kill-File is an easy way to remove unwanted files. It is
possible to do this with different criteria. You can delete
files that are older t han X days but also exclude files that
have been downloaded more than X times. It is also possible
to run this without a saftey question or you can choose to
individually confirm each file for deletion.
6.10 Archive
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The archive function checks all drives for the amount of free
disk space. If this value is less then the predefined value
SYSOP moves old files into the archive directory until the
min. free space is reached.
This even works if no space is really freed up. E.g. because
the archive directory is included in the 'Incl. Drives'.
Only files older then 'min. age of files' and with less d/l's
then 'max. downloads' will be archived.
Additionally SYSOP creates an infofile that contains the file
descriptions of all archived files. It's name is 'YYMMDD.INF'
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 58
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
7. The way to DOS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The functions DOS Shell & external programs are available.
These should only be used if you have a pretty good knowledge
of DOS so that it can be used effectivly.
SYSOP jumps into a temporary DOS Shell using ALT-J, it then
leaves only 10 kBb in memory.
7.1 DOS-Shell
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Temporary leaving SYSOP into DOS. You go into a DOS Shell and
do a few things like formatting your boot harddisk ;-) or
start another programm or look at a directory etc.
SYSOP puts its information into a temporary file. After
exiting the shell SYSOP reads this information back in and
you can go on working where you stopped.
It is NOT ALLOWED in a shell to start any TSR programs e.g.
Print, SideKick or the like. If you do SYSOP will not be able
to restart.
Manual for SYSOP 2.11 59
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
7.2 External programs
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Starting external programs without leaving SYSOP. To start
another program like Scan you do not need to start a DOS
Shell but you can start it directly. All you need to do is to
enter the complete name and path of the file, SYSOP then
changes to the directory and starts the program, if no path
is defined then the file must be available in your path.
After terminating the program you automatically return to
SYSOP.
To make it possible to start a program of any size SYSOP puts
itself into a temporary file. This file MUST NOT be deleted
during a shell otherwise you may loose some of your data and
won't get back in to SYSOP :-(
Apart from this DO NOT start any TSR programs.
